NGO Announces Music Concert to Boost Autism Awareness in Nigeria

The Ferdinand Effah Music Heritage Foundation has unveiled plans for a landmark advocacy initiative using the power of music to advance understanding and acceptance of autism across Nigeria. On Tuesday, the non-governmental organisation revealed it will host the inaugural Harmony for Autism Music Charity Concert on April 2 2026, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day.

The event is scheduled to take place at the National Universities Commission Auditorium in Abuja and aims to unite music enthusiasts, autism advocates, families affected by autism, policymakers, and community stakeholders. Organisers emphasise that the concert will serve as a platform to highlight the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum and their caregivers, including social stigma, limited access to specialised services, and the need for greater inclusion in society.

A key highlight of the evening will be the official launch of two advocacy-focused music albums by Ferdys Band, the foundations in-house ensemble. Titled A Voice for Autism and Love of an Autism Mom, the albums seek to amplify the experiences of those living with autism and their families through heartfelt lyrics and melodies designed to foster empathy and spark national conversations.

The Ferdinand Effah Music Heritage Foundation, founded with a mission rooted in music therapy and heritage preservation, has long championed creative approaches to support vulnerable groups. This concert marks the first in an intended annual series that will feature live performances by prominent Nigerian artists, Ferdys Band, and potentially talented autistic individuals or groups showcasing their musical abilities. Beyond entertainment, the initiative calls for increased government attention, donor support, and community empowerment to improve early intervention, education, and overall quality of life for autistic Nigerians.

As preparations intensify for the April event, the foundation invites public participation and sponsorship to help mobilise resources for ongoing autism advocacy programs. By harnessing musics universal appeal, this charity concert represents a hopeful step toward building a more compassionate and inclusive Nigeria for everyone touched by autism.
