The African Democratic Congress has strongly condemned recent reports alleging that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress diverted substantial funds from the Federation Account Allocation Committee to finance President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of 2027.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the alleged diversion of over N800 billion through deductions from FAAC allocations as shameless, cruel, and criminal, especially at a time when millions of Nigerians face severe poverty, hunger, and economic hardship.

The opposition party emphasized that such actions, if proven true, represent a gross misuse of public resources meant for the development and welfare of citizens across the federation. It noted that these allegations validate longstanding public concerns regarding the transparency and accountability in the management of national revenues shared through the FAAC mechanism.

The ADC argued that diverting funds intended for states and local governments into political campaigns constitutes wickedness on an industrial scale, particularly amid rising costs of living and widespread hardship caused by current economic policies.

The party has therefore called for an immediate independent investigation into the allegations. This probe should thoroughly examine the reported use of FAAC deductions, any related accounts, and structures allegedly linked to the operation. The ADC urged relevant authorities to ensure full disclosure and accountability in order to restore public confidence in the management of national resources.
