David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress has formally petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, requesting the immediate delivery of a Supreme Court verdict regarding the party’s leadership crisis. In a letter dated April 28, 2026, the party’s legal counsel, Shuaibu Aruwa (SAN), warned that any further delay beyond three days could cause irreparable harm, potentially excluding the party from the 2027 general elections.

The legal team emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission has already de-recognized the current leadership based on a lower court’s status quo order, leaving the party in a vacuum as critical electoral deadlines approach.

The Supreme Court had previously reserved judgment on April 22, 2026, after an accelerated hearing of the appeal marked SC/CV/180/2026, which challenges the legitimacy of the faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe. The ADC argues that its ability to comply with the statutory requirements for the upcoming elections, including the submission of party membership registers by May 10, 2026, is entirely dependent on a timely judicial resolution.

They asserted that a delay would not only jeopardize the party’s political future but also disenfranchise millions of supporters who intend to vote for their candidates in the general elections scheduled for January 2027.
