Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists launched a deadly assault on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State overnight abducting more than 100 women and children while killing soldiers community leaders including the Chief Imam and several elders. The attackers reportedly overran a military base belonging to the Nigerian Army 82nd Division Task Force Battalion and targeted an Internally Displaced Persons camp before moving into the town itself where they carried out the mass abductions and executions.

Local residents described the operation as lasting for hours with little effective resistance from security forces leading to widespread panic and thousands of survivors fleeing to neighboring Pulka community where many are now sleeping on roads and in school buildings out of fear of further attacks. Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South confirmed the killings of both military personnel and civilians in the raid and called for intensified military operations in key insurgent hideouts such as Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains to curb the escalating violence. This latest incident highlights the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in northeastern Nigeria despite ongoing counterinsurgency efforts and raises fresh concerns about civilian safety humanitarian conditions in displacement camps and the ability of security forces to protect vulnerable populations in remote areas.

The abductions come amid a pattern of such attacks in the region where militants have historically used kidnapping for ransom recruitment forced marriages and to spread terror further complicating peace and stabilization initiatives in Borno State.
