LAGOS – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a major win in the fight against drug trafficking, intercepting 22 packages of suspected cocaine valued at approximately N1 billion along the strategic Badagry–Seme border corridor.

The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, around 0300hrs, when vigilant officers from the Seme Area Command intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle concealing the illicit consignment. The 22 packages weighed about 25 kilograms in total. One male suspect was promptly arrested at the scene, with investigations revealing the shipment may have originated from neighboring Ghana.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (represented by DCG Timi Bomodi at the handover), described the seizure as a result of actionable intelligence and swift response, underscoring the Service’s commitment to border security and protecting society from narcotics.

The contraband, the suspect (identified as Adeniran Aliyu in some reports), and the conveyance vehicle were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ in Lagos, strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

This interception highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt transnational drug networks using Nigeria’s porous western borders. Authorities say investigations continue.
