The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted two major drug smuggling attempts on the same day using clever hiding methods. At the Seme border in Lagos State, agents arrested 35-year-old Rabi Muhammad from Kano as she tried to cross into Benin Republic. Her obvious pregnancy turned out to be fake, a pink calabash tied around her waist that held 3,200 tramadol capsules intended for sale in Cotonou.

At the same time, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, officers detained 41-year-old Ivorian national Michael Gohouri (also known as Anunwa Onyinye Michael) before his flight to Milan, Italy. A body scan detected ingested drugs, and under close watch he passed 82 cocaine wraps weighing 1.49 kg. Records show he flew into Lagos from Milan on January 17, 2026, spent time moving between Lagos and Enugu, then ingested the cocaine in a Kano hotel. He expected to earn 5,000 Euros for delivering the drugs in Italy. The NDLEA announced both cases on February 22, 2026, highlighting ongoing challenges with creative smuggling tactics aimed at Europe and West African neighbors.
