The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally initiated legal proceedings by filing a thirteen-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against individuals accused of participating in a plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu. According to court documents filed on April 21, 2026, the defendants are accused of offences ranging from treason and terrorism to the failure to disclose security intelligence and money laundering linked to the financing of illegal activities.

The prosecution, led by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, alleges that the group conspired in 2025 to undermine the Nigerian state and wage war against the country, marking a significant escalation in a security investigation that has unfolded over several months.

Among the prominent figures named in the suit are a retired Major General, Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, a retired Naval Captain, Erasmus Victor, and a serving Police Inspector, Ahmed Ibrahim, alongside three other civilians. The indictment also surprisingly includes former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who is reportedly at large, with the charges suggesting a coordinated network involving both high-level political figures and military personnel.

Arraignment for the suspects is scheduled to take place before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, as security agencies continue to monitor the situation following earlier reports of the detention of approximately forty suspects linked to the alleged conspiracy.
