The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has made a strong call for unity within the Peoples Democratic Party urging all members to set aside differences and work together as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a high level PDP stakeholders meeting Wike warned against what he described as fear politics emphasizing that such tactics would only weaken the party and play into the hands of opponents.
Wike who remains one of the most influential figures in the PDP stressed that the party must reject divisive tendencies and focus on rebuilding trust among its members. He noted that internal wrangling and mutual suspicion have continued to hamper the PDP’s recovery since the 2023 elections insisting that unity is the only path to reclaiming lost ground and presenting a formidable front in future polls. The former Rivers State governor pointed out that fear politics which involves spreading rumours intimidation and unnecessary panic has no place in a party that seeks to regain the confidence of Nigerians.
According to Wike the PDP must instead promote message of hope competence and good governance. He reminded party faithful that Nigerians are tired of empty promises and are looking for leaders who can deliver tangible development and economic relief. The Minister urged all PDP leaders and members especially those in the Federal Capital Territory and across the country to close ranks and avoid actions that could further fracture the party. He also cautioned against allowing external forces to exploit internal divisions for their own political advantage.
Wike’s remarks come at a critical time when the PDP is undergoing internal reorganisation and attempting to resolve lingering leadership crises. Many observers believe the party’s performance in the 2027 elections will largely depend on how effectively it manages its internal affairs and presents a united front.
