World Bank has approved a fresh 1.25 billion dollar loan for Nigeria under its Nigeria Actions for Investment and Jobs Acceleration programme. This development policy financing operation comes as the country seeks to strengthen economic reforms and drive sustainable growth amid ongoing public discussions about debt levels.
This significant financing supports a broad set of government reforms aimed at building stronger foundations for competitiveness and inclusive development. Key areas include deepening capital markets, modernizing regulations for the digital economy and e-governance, advancing power sector improvements to speed up electrification, and reducing trade barriers in line with Nigeria’s commitments under ECOWAS and the African Continental Free Trade Area. Additional priorities involve enhancing access to quality agricultural seeds and strengthening domestic revenue mobilization efforts.
The approval was announced alongside the launch of a new Country Partnership Framework for Nigeria covering the years 2026 to 2032. This framework will guide the World Bank’s engagement with the country over the next six years, with a central focus on creating more and better jobs through private sector led growth. By supporting these initiatives, the loan aims to help Nigeria transition toward a more inclusive economic model that spurs broader opportunities and long term prosperity for its citizens.
