Supreme Court Affirms Nullification of Controversial PDP National Convention in Ibadan

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on April 30, 2026, upheld the nullification of the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, November 2025, in a 3-2 split decision.

The ruling, led by Justice Stephen Adah, declared the convention invalid because it disregarded an existing Federal High Court order, affirming that ignoring judicial orders threatens the rule of law.

This judgment invalidates the leadership structure that emerged from the event, specifically overturning Tanimu Turaki’s election as national chairman, which stemmed from a lawsuit filed by Sule Lamido regarding his exclusion from the process.

The PDP’s Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, is now overseeing an interim, while the INEC is prohibited from recognizing the nullified convention’s results.
