President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu have returned to Lagos following a successful two-day historic state visit to the United Kingdom. The visit, which marked the first by a Nigerian president to the UK in 37 years, concluded with key diplomatic and economic achievements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the visit hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, President Tinubu engaged in high-level discussions with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Downing Street. A major highlight was the signing of a landmark £746 million financing agreement with UK Export Finance to support the refurbishment and modernization of two critical maritime infrastructures in Lagos: the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex. This deal is expected to enhance Nigeria’s port efficiency, boost trade, and drive economic growth through improved infrastructure.

Additionally, the leaders addressed migration issues, agreeing on measures to facilitate the return of Nigerian nationals without valid stay in the UK, including easier recognition of identification documents for deportations. The state visit featured ceremonial welcomes, a royal banquet, and commitments to deepen cooperation on trade, security, and sustainable development. Upon arrival in Lagos, the president is set to spend the Eid al-Fitr (Sallah) break in the city, amid celebrations and reflections on the trip’s outcomes.
